From the BBC (U.K.)

by bbc Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000 at 3:14 PM

BBC coverage of the protests and convention 16th and 15th August

Police on alert at Convention

US police have been deployed in strength in central Los Angeles, where the Democratic convention is underway, after the arrest of more than 150 protesters in various incidents over the past two days.

A civil liberties group demanded that the police be brought "under control"...

The police fired rubber bullets, swung clubs and used pepper spray to disperse thousands of concert-goers after a fringe group began throwing rocks, bottles and lumps of concrete at them.

Protests at money politics

Police and protesters clashed outside the Staples Centre on Monday as President Bill Clinton delivered his farewell speech to the Democratic Party convention...

Decrying corporate influence

The clashes came after a mostly peaceful day of protests that culminated with a concert by Rage Against the Machine, a band known for its politically charged lyrics, its driving rap-rock style and its intensely loyal following.

At least one protester was hospitalised

The protests addressed a broad range of issues including calls for nuclear disarmament, for an end to the death penalty and for Vice-President Al Gore to end his investment in Occidental Petroleum.

The protesters were united, however, by a belief that corporate money dominated US politics and that, as a result, their issues were not being addressed.

Look at the last two paragraphs!

I can't believe it, that's it! Those last two lines, those are the ones that you will *never* see in an American report, and sadly is the most important piece of information they could report...

However, they still take lies for granted.

Re: the above comment ("you would *never* see it in the US"). Please don't forget that it is easier to tell a bit of the truth when it does not affect your country, and it looks good.

The BBC consistently lies about dissidence in the UK, veto left-wingers who try to work for them and are an integral and instrumental part of the UK propaganda propaganda system (although many of their workers try to counteract this from the inside, which is laudable).

From Europe, respect to everyone over there trying to tell the truth from an independent viewpoint. We are watching and we are learning.
