Here's an incidental thing I've noticed. At the WTO protest in Seattle the riot police looked like a Darth-Vader totalitarian nightmare. They wore all black, had masks to cover their faces, and generally were some scary looking guys.
Washington, on the other hand, they had a slightly less phychotic look. Threatening, but now you could see their faces, you could make out their normal uniform.
Philedelphia, and now they're in short sleeves riding bicycles, keeping the riot gear off camera and presenting a bizarre bastardization of an eco-friendly officer-on-the-corner sort and the violent tear-gas spraying riot cop we saw in Seattle.
Now it's Los Angeles turn, and fears of abound as the curruption and brutality of the LAPD, particularly Rampart, are infamous internationaly. But the gear is once again more like what you would use to go hunting, instead of to, say, jump out of a helicopter and lay siege to an embassy. The goggles look more like swim masks than anything else. I assume this is due to the heat of the Los Angeles summer.
Any else noticed the visual shift of the police from town to town? Think this is normal, or an intentional public relations issue?
LAPD = 3
Portestor Assholes = 0
Mumia = Mummy
The game is still in progress... The clock is ticking...
Transform Mumia into a Mummy!
When you use the word pig to describe the fascist police force you are doing a disservice to animals. Pigs are majestic animals (they are smarter than dogs). Cops are violent power hungry agressors. To use the word pig to describe them plays into a language system that is intent on assigning lessor status to animals. Animals are often used to descibe human beings in a negative way. This type of language is speciesism. Like all the other "isms" (racism, sexism) speciesism is a social disease that needs to be irradicated. Free yourself from such speciesist language and call the cops a word (or set of words) that accurately describe what they are: millitant agressors who serve the corporations and protect private property.
