Corporate Media continues black out of horror.
The Baltimore Sun and Washington Post release this statement:
"Many people wonder how we maintain our incredible hypocrisy.
How we can be so biased, dishonest, violent, and hateful in our
own area while decrying the behavior elsewhere. How we can be
so self righteous about all aspects of life while supporting
genocide for over a decade in our own area.
How can we weep so readily for the plights of people all over the
world, angrily decry injustices in Bosnia, stand strong in the face
of tyranny in Africa, when we collude in behavior far worse in our
own back yard.
This is simply the nature of power. It has happened and will
continue to happen in the US. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
We have zero accountability and any dissent is censored through
our affiliations/ associations.
We are trying to set an example for others trying to perform
successful, unnoticed genocide. You must build coalitions with
highly respected members/ organizations of powerful, highly
respected nations, particularly the US. We have tapped unlimited
resources of cruelty, dishonesty and bigotry in the academic/
scientific community that should be very useful for any other
genocidal act. Academics are very highly respected and we have
many who have really driven the American genocide of the
disfigured. The numbers are too high to list here, but we are
releasing that to the public.
You must choose the most vulnerable, dependent populations,
ones whose members pose little ability to network or organize and
who have no access to powerful institutions (like us). The
disfigured are the best group to start with because they are by
far the most vulnerable population and there is no recognition of
their condition. Killing them is like a free pass. From there move
onto other groups of disabled, homeless, etc.
We are only trying to improve population control and growth in the
US and beyond. No need for thanks, we are only doing our civic
duty."

Once again, we have an example of a troll. That is, a person who posts a harassing message to get a rise out of people.
In the past few weeks I've seen a few honest folks post responses to these allegations as if they were to be taken seriously. I am taking the time to post this rebuttal to make it clear that the allegations are not serious. They are a hoax.
If you are a new visitor to the Indymedia sites, please note that the above "article" from "Sloan Kettering" is _not_ what this independent media network is about. Someone is abusing the open nature of the Indymedia system to post undocumented and easily-debunked allegations in what appears to be an attempt to sabotage our efforts to distribute real, grassroots news. They are either doing this as a sick joke, or an attempt to discredit the independent media, or as a way to distract us from the real work of building a better society.
Let's examine the "article" closely. The source is clearly a pseudonym, and a cynical one at that. The real Sloan Kettering is a medical research institute that combats cancer. The post heading provieds no other verifiable contact information, which one should demand when confronted with such serious allegations.
The submission claims that the _Baltimore Sun_ and the _Washington Post_ wrote the quoted statement. As someone else on one of these sites pointed out earlier, this may be an attempt to make the Indymedia system look guilty of spreading false information about two entities that zealously protect their reputations. (And yes, I do know most users of the IMC system view these papers' reportage with a skeptical read between the lines.) Maybe the troll wants to set these newspapers against Indymedia. Who knows?
The "article" never gives specifics about when the "statement" was released. I searched the article archive of the _Washington Post_ website, searching for articles that contained both of the words "genocide" and "disfigured". Only four articles appeared. Reading the old microfilms of these articles produces no statements of newspaper policy. I found nothing about what the troll is screaming about.
"Suffer the Children, By the Millions", January 31, 2000 , by Eugene Robinson, reviewed a HBO documentary called _Children of War_, which was about the child victims of recent wars.
"FBI'S Expertise Gets Emotional Test in Kosovo; Relatives Help Bureau Make IDs at Mass Graves", September 20, 1999, by David A. Vise and Lorraine Adams, looked at the gathering of forensic evidence in Kosovo for warcrimes trials.
"The Butcher's Waltz: PBS's Ambitious Look at 'The Great War'", November 10, 1996, by Elizabeth Kastor, examined a PBS documentary about the causes and consequences of World War I.
The most relevant article was "The Debate Over Her Baby: Bree Walker Lampley Has a Deformity -- Some People Think She Shouldn't Have Kids", October 20, 1991, by Jay Mathews. Lampley was a television anchorwoman in Los Angeles who was pregnant that year. A local radio talk show host, Jane Norris of KFI, said it was a bad idea for Lampley to have a child that might inherit ectrodactylism. The article briefly reviews the dismal history of eugenics, and was essentially sympathetic to Lampley's situation. This nine-year-old article was nowhere near suggesting "genocide".
And a search of the _Baltimore Sun_ archives, using the same search terms, yielded absolutely nothing.
So, "Derg" (or whatever is your real name), chew on them facts.
This troll never explains what they mean by "disfigured". If this is satire, it is too obtuse for its own good. If the word "disfigured" is used as a substitute for some other category of humankind, I am at a loss to figure out the puzzle. I believe that the troll is either lying, deceived, or insane.
So, readers -- especially new visitors to this site -- please learn how to identify junk for what it is. Don't swallow the troll's tall tales. I am sure that I am not alone in encouraging all of you to read and think critically, especially when following the mainstream news, and even when reading this network. And while you're at it, learn how to use the local library, and visit their alternative press collection if they have one.

Thanks to the freedom of this site, anyone can post anything. This calls for a certain level of responsibility. The carefull responce by Thomas makes an effort to explain the motivation of the person identifiying as 'Sloan'. Perhaps he is correct. Alternatively there may be a different explanation; before we pull the plug, lets make sure ther is no baby in this bathwater.
Perhaps it is the case that 'Sloans' intentions are not to defame the indymeadia site. Perhaps instead s/he is a insightful yet cynical and frustrated prankster that has adopted the perspective of the oppressor as a way to speak from and illuminate that which s/he feels s/he is working against. This is a tricky tactic, as it is easily misinterpreted, as perhaps has been the case here. When viewed as such, the posting becomes readily understandable as an effort to articulate the systems that oppress vulnerable communities and oppose the efforts of independent media activists to expose them.
The essence of 'Sloans' post then becomes clear: in spite of US internal and external propaganda, the US is a systematic oppressor of vulnerable populations. I think this is a fairly accurate assesment, or at least a view i expect many people who have given deep and honest consideration hold. That said however, sarcasm is not always the most effective way to present one's views, as confusion is often the result, and this becomes counter productive.
Please all strive to communicate with maximum clarity and effectiveness. We can ill afford to suffer the friction that such convoluted postings effect. Good luck all!

It's always interesting to see how one interprets the message, in any form of art, writing, cinema, poetry, painting, comedy, etc. The interpretation tells as much about the listener as the creator.
In this case, I assume this is satire. Satire to ridicule the status quo. Illuminating as one reader commented. Others may interpret it from their point of view, a facist would happily read, and concur. A shocked liberal, outrage.
I took it as tongue-in-cheek. Not pure evil, but as another surfer here says, a tricky way to express an opinion and make an impact.
I did get a bit of a wry smile, thanks for the effort author.
