STOP THE U.S. OCCUPATION AND MILITARY DOMINATION OF THE WORLD NOW!
Not In Our Name, in conjunction with A.N.S.W.E.R. and Afghan Women's Mission, invite like-minded groups and individuals to join them in occupying the lawn of the Westwood Federal Building this Friday, August 22, 2003. We will arrive in full force, a peace army...imagine the lawn completely covered with a multicolored patchwork of tents, each with it's own theme. Set up your own tent, complete with banners, photos, and messages of resistance!
We will occupy the lawn at noon, and in the evening voice our resistance through speakers, musicians, and poets. Let us show the world that we unequivocally oppose our government’s actions, and let us remind the Bush Administration that the power of this country is, and will always be, in the hands of the people!
7,800 civilians killed in Iraq. 4,000 killed in Afghanistan.
BREAK THE SILENCE!
Another world is possible, and we pledge to make it real!

Sherman Martin Austin, webmaster of RaisetheFist.com was sentenced to one year in prison on August 4, 2003, for having a link to bomb making information on his website, with intent that the information be used to commit a federal crime of violence. The constitutionality of the law he was convicted under is now under question.
Rob "Ruckus" Middaugh was recently released from Avenal State Prison, after serving two years for trumped up charges stemming from his involvement in the 2001 Long Beach May Day demonstration. After being released from Avenal, Federal Marshals came for him and he is now being charged with assaulting a government official. Aparently getting splashed with soda constitutes federal assault.
Stop the railroading of these two activists!
Please Help!!!

Yousuf Mollah's family, friends, and members of his community gathered in front of Parker Center in downtown Los Angeles today, August 15, 2003, to demand an independent investigation into his death. Mollah was fatally shot by LAPD Officer Alma Adrade last Sunday at about 6:30 pm, after responding to a complaint about a man exposing himself. Organizers say they believe the LAPD is incapable of an unbiased investigation. They criticized the entire handling of the situation, particularly the extreme rapidity with which Officer Andrade resorted to lethal force, and the lack of medical care for Mollah until 10 pm that night, three and a half hours after he was shot and after he was already dead. Enjoying the hospitality of Jennifer Martin's cozy Sherman Oaks apartment, and the playful affections of her spotted dog, with its radiantly pleasant disposition, was a warm beginning for this somber occasion. Martin's twenty year old son, Sherman Austin was recently unjustly convicted for posting bomb making information on his website, RaisetheFist.com, with intent to further an act of violence. We were there to get their side of the story...

Hundreds of progressive, civil rights, and ethnic organizations have come together to oppose Propositon 54, which would eliminate the "race" box from state forms, and disallow the collection of data based on race or ethnicity.
Proponent Ward Connerly has been called, by some, a self-hating Black man. He, along with prominent conservative Black supporters like Shelby Steele and Thomas Sowell, have long argued for "colorblindness" in government institutions, and social unity through a multicultural nationalism. Like conservative think tanks that dumb down macroeconomics for their constituency, their website states that this ballot initative will only "remove the little box from government forms." A recent poll quoted in Time indicated that 50% of people supported Prop 54.
Opponents to Prop 54 say its passage will render impossible, efforts to address racial disparities in health care, hate crimes, at the workplace, and school. Diseases affect some groups more than others, and health care initiatives would be unable to target these groups. Improvements in hate crimes and education would be impossible to track, and, thus, those programs would be effectively eliminated.
