Saving the South Central Farm: Listening to the Land
Juan Santos and Leslie Radford
2008-07-19 6:49 AM
To many, it looked like the Struggle to Save the South Central Farm was defeated, a dream buried beneath the treads of the bulldozers that plowed the Farm under following the brutal invasion of an army of LA County Sheriffs crushed the resistor's encampment, turning the land from a liberated zone into an oppressive, occupied one. But all that could change. Here's why, and how you can help make it change. (image/jpeg)

“In 1971, Occidental Petroleum was reinjecting their production waters back into the ground here in the United States and elsewhere where they were operating. [So] they had the technology—it was just more expensive to do it [in Peru], and no one was regulating them. This is environmental racism.” -- Mitchell Anderson, Amazon Watch (image/jpeg)

Property Owners protest Eminent Domain - To Burn City Eviction Notices
Baldwin Park, CA – While city council members publicly claimed for weeks that there were no immediate plans to seize over 500 homes and businesses by eminent domain to benefit the wealthy and politically connected Bisno Development Company, over the Christmas Holiday over 100 of the 500 threatened property owners received notices from the city informing them that they stand to lose their homes and jobs by eminent domain. The city has also been criticized for sending English only letters to Spanish speaking property owners.

Indigeneous
2007-11-29 11:12 PM The San Francisco Peaks are a unique mountain ecosystem which are managed as public lands in Northern Arizona.
The Peaks are held Holy by more than 13 Indigenous Nations. A small ski area is threatening expansion and attempting to make fake snow from treated sewage effluent filled with harmful contaminants.
A coalition of tribes and environmental groups have unified to prevent the environmental destruction, community health hazards and extreme desecration that would be caused by the proposed development.
Although the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals blocked the ski area plan, the case will be reheard in Pasadena on December 11th, 2007.

Michael Roston
2007-11-16 1:55 PM While hundreds of thousands of citizens were fleeing Southern California's wildfires in October, Blackwater USA was charging back in.
While the fires still burned, executives from the private security firm personally delivered food and supplies to displaced residents and eventually set up temporary housing.
But don't accuse Blackwater of taking advantage of the disaster for the purposes of self-promotion. The company insists that it is just a friendly corporate citizen.
