May is the start of spring and suitably the anointed month for reaffirmations that must emerge after a harsh winter. Or in our case in Los Angeles, a season of oppression, degradation and family smashing that has been slopped upon us by Donald Trumps administration.
Here is a quick history of May Day. Wikipedia May Day. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_Day#North_America
May Day in Los Angeles has been a complicated event. Over the last years the rallies here have been divided into multiple marches, reflecting differences in approaches to the problem of wealth inequality in the American workforce.
The march started out in MacArthur Park. This is a notable spot because ICE had used it as a staging ground for a stunt meant to intimidate the surrounding immigrant filled neighborhoods.
Notably, no arrests were made on that day.
Mayor Karen Bass immediately took up the cudgel and confronted them with accusations of terrorizing the neighborhood, interrupting a summer camp for kids and interrupting medical services for the unhoused.
So this march was a fitting response to that farce.
The protest was well organized which was fitting because it was a Los Angeles union rally.
This is a list of most of the groups in the march.

The mood of this march was resurrective. The message seemed to be that of unity and good old American defiance.
Most of the marchers were dressed in the the tee shirts and colors of their group affiliations.
There were organizational tents where one could sign up for various community activist groups at the start of the march in MacArthur park.
So the march started and ended with a sense of joy and confidence.
ICE was loudly cited as a nemesis throughout the day.
This was after the previous years ICE harrasment in Los Angeles,Minneapolis, Portland, Charlotte, Memphis and Chicago.
There was protest signage critical of the Iran war and of the genocidal actions of Benjamin Benjamin Netanyahu's Israeli government's military actions in Gaza and Lebanon.
The police presence was minimal and the overall signature of the rally was organized and peaceful.
The marchers left MacArthur Park, moving down 6th st to Broadway were it eventually ended up at City Hall where participants rallied and then went home.
