Sunday is usually a day of quiet in downtown Los Angeles.

However DTLA on June 8th was anything but.

President Donald Trump has declared war on Sanctuary Cities across America and his sights are now set on Los Angeles. The last 5 days have seen an escalation in tension and line crossings by the federal government under Trump as well as an increase in reactionary violence and peaceful protest.



The Values Act or SB 54 is the law that makes LA a city of sanctuary for immigrants.

The law “ protects the safety and well being of all Californians by curtailing use of state and local resources from being used for mass deportations and ensures that important institutions such as schools, health facilities, and courthouses remain accessible to everyone. “

SB 54 entails . . . .

1.Immigration Holds are prohibited.

2.Making arrests on civil immigration warrants is prohibited.

3.Asking about immigration status or using immigration agents as interpreters is prohibited.

4.Sharing personal info with ICE (e.g., work, home addresses) is prohibited

5.ICE 287(g) Program

The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 added Section 287(g) to the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) — authorizing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to delegate to state and local law enforcement officers the authority to perform specified immigration officer functions under the agency’s direction and oversight. This is prohibited.

On June 6th ICE raids occurred in Los Angeles targeting textile workers in DTLA and Home Depot “for hire” workers in Pomona and Westlake.



This caused civil unrest among the immigrant related population in LA which prompted the administration on June 7th to federalize and send 2000 State National Guardmen reportedly to quell any violence. On June 10th Trump has authorized the sending of 200 more National Guardsmen.These actions prompted Mayor Bass and Gavin Newsome to cite the administrations actions as escalatory and and unnecessary.

State Attorney General Rob Bonta stated, “The President is trying to manufacture chaos and crisis on the ground for his own political ends,” “Federalizing the California National Guard is an abuse of the President’s authority under the law – and not one we take lightly.”

Bonta has issued a statement on the lawsuit that California has filed against the Trump Administration and Pete Hegseth.

Trump has repeatedly called for Tom Homan to arrest Governor Newsome and Mayor Bass for interfering with the ICE raids.

In response to Trump and Holman's threats , Newsom stated on MSNBC pointing to Holman, “He’s a tough guy, why doesn’t he do that? He knows where to find me.”

Newsome also tweeted, “The President of the United States just called for the arrest of a sitting Governor. This is a day I hoped I would never see in America,”

“I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or a Republican this is a line we cannot cross as a nation — this is an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism,” said Governor Gavin Newsome

Meanwhile ICE is raiding small businesses like car washes across the southland , snatching up and essentially disappearing workers, shattering families and creating terror in city that was fine a week ago.

The population of Los Angeles which numbers 12 and a half million souls is 48 cent Hispanic and 35 percent foreign born.

All of this resulted in all hell breaking loose in DTLA on June 8th.

Five Waymo cabs were burnt to ash, the 101 freeway was shut down by protesters who were corralled and driven back by teargas and a phalanx of local police.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Los Angeles Police Department and California Highway Patrol arrested 42 people while 5 policeman sustained minor injuries

The LAPD confirmed that number and said charges include failure to disperse, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, looting and arson.

Donald Trump as of June 10th has authorized the deployment of 700 US Marines to LA.
