Recipes For Disaster, an anarchist cookbook

by False Flag Friday, Mar. 02, 2007 at 11:06 PM

For ten long years, our operatives have honed their skills, testing their wits and mettle against the global capitalist empire, the most formidable adversary in the history of life on earth. We have learned how to redecorate the walls of cities occupied by armies of riot police, to transform random groups of damaged, isolated individuals into loving communities capable of supporting one another through the most severe bouts of repression and depression, to shut down corporate summits and franchises armed with little more than plastic piping or eyedroppers of glue. Now, the notorious CrimethInc. ex-Workers’ Collective has compiled many of the techniques that made these feats possible into a 624-page manual entitled Recipes for Disaster.

I am so sincerely disappointed...

Someone posted a link as a comment on my myspace to this page. I only briefly looked it over before deciding to approve the comment, as I am vaguely familiar with CrimethInc. I have requested the free material they offer and was quite impressed with the large amount of extra propaganda which accompanied the expected material.

I started to browse through "Recipes for Disaster" and was quite impressed with some the ideas that it contained. In fact I was quite enthralled and forced myself to put it away after a few minutes as to get some work done.

I told an acquaintance of mine about it and after browsing through it's table of contents he pointed out an anomaly. I had negligently skimmed over the table of contents myself and completely missed it. (Always thoroughly read the TOC folks!)

The suspect section is titled "Spell Casting". This section promotes the delusional belief that magic is real and anything is possible. They even include a full page of examples of magic, all seem to be false cause fallacies.

For an organization that seems to have a lot going for it, this book has some glaring flaws. How can we respect and trust them if they can't follow some basic rules of reasoning. This is akin to having prayer included as a tactic and is extremely detrimental to the cause. Without solid epistemology we are doomed to fail at building anything better than what we have. If we can't all agree on what reality is in the beginning we are bound to have huge problems down the road.

We are in the midsts of a very serious situation I do not want to rely on people who are trained to cast spells to solve problems. I want to rely on people who are trained to survive and navigate the reality that we will be in, the one true reality that obeys laws of physics. The reality that is tested and testable. The reality that has been slowly described by giants among humans throughout history. The ones on who's shoulders we stand today and because of whom we are able to see as far and wide as we can.

I am so sincerely disappointed in the inclusion of this quite misleading and counterproductive piece and invite everyone to put some thought into this very serious issue.

Good so far

There were some good angles on this PDF.

Stencils was informative and it gave some pro-active ideas.

After a little massaging (background/halo removal, deskewing, and partial OCR), I got the size down to ~14 Mb (the quality isn't great, but legible), grab it here (please make mirrors!). Enjoy.
