Let's shut down the city on January 20th. In protest of the re-election (?) of Bush and in protest of the continuing death and destruction in Iraq. It's real simple: don't go to work, don't go to school. Join the protest at the Westwood Federal Building.
Striking for peace and justice is a simple way to get a message across and show solidarity with the victims of the war in Iraq. General strikes have been used for a long time as effective messages of resistance. We need to send a strong message now more than ever.
We need volunteers to help wheat paste posters and spread the word. Email january20strike@yahoo.com if you're interested on helping out.
I had the exact same idea. we must be on to something. spread the word.
GENERAL STRIKE ON INAUGURATION DAY
People can call in sick that day, at the last possible moment.
If enough people are ill, then business will be slowed significantly.
Then, as a show of protest, people can go to businesses that supported Bush, and vomit on the floor or on the front door. This is a site with info about corporate contributions: http://www.choosetheblue.com/main.php
If you really need to go to work, because you don't get sick pay (like so many people these days, including myself), then go, but screw things up. When you have to call out for something, say that there was nobody there. Then get it done an hour later. Slow everything down. Tell people that someone told you about some big inauguration protest.
Inauguration day should be a holiday anyway, since we now have someone more like a dictator than a real representative of the people's will.
This is a great idea but it will have to involve thousands of people at least to get noticed. We will need to involve some big groups like move-on or maybe some unions...
