The election wasn't stolen. The Florida Supreme Court, the Al Gore Campaign, and their million dollar lawyer all tried their level best to steal the election, but they failed thanks to the US Surpreme Court and the law of the land.

A group of experts and computer scientists determined a while back that the best method of voting would be to use paper ballots and computer scanning.

This would be a step "backward" from the current ink-a-vote and punch card systems. The ballot would have the candidates printed right on the ballot, just like back before these voting machines.

You'd mark your choices with a special ink pen, and the ballot would go into a scanner, and then you'd get a receipt, to verify proper scanning. That receipt would include a digital pattern that would be keyed back to your ballot. Then the ballot would go into a box for safe keeping.

This system would be a vast improvement over the current system, and provide extreme secrecy *and* paper and digital trails to prevent fraud. It would provide "instant" poll results too.

In contrast, the Diebold and other machines are more like ATMs. Your vote is "stored" in a computer database. You get a "paper trail" that allegedly cannot be faked... except that the vote itself can be faked, while the paper trail displays your vote. So, votes can be faked in the available commercial systems with a paper trail.

Frankly, this is like "storing" a contract on a computer. Only a fool entrusts an important contract to a computer. Normal people get printouts, signatures, photocopies, etc. and store the contract in a fireproof box.

Ballots are like a contract. They should be on paper, marked in ink, with the candidate names right on the ballot.

Notice that most of the people making noise about this are Democrats. That's probably because Diebold's boss is a big Republican fundraiser. Talk about corruption!

The argument about inheritance makes little sense.
