Temecula Night of Remembrance Reflects on a Year of War Temecula, Calif. -- The members of Peace Works! in Temecula Valley will gather on Saturday, March 20, 2004, at the Temecula Duck Pond Park to mark the anniversary of the start of the Iraq War. This special Night of Remembrance begins at dusk, 6:00 p.m., and will feature reflections on the human cost of war as well as hope for a world of peace.

Friends and neighbors from Temecula, Murrieta, Wildomar, Lake Elsinore, and beyond are invited to join us for this candlelight event beside the 9/11 commemoration statue at Duck Pond Park. Bring a small candle or other light source, but leave the signs and banners at home, organizers say.

"This is not a protest or a political rally," says Peace Works! organizer Kynn Bartlett. "We may be angry or frustrated by the situation, but this is a night to mourn. The cost of war has been paid in blood, by the people of Iraq and by the men and women of the United States military -- including some from our community."

Peace activists around the world have designated March 20 as a day of action, with protests planned in Los Angeles, New York, London, San Francisco, Rome, Chicago, and elsewhere. Local peace activists in Riverside are riding to Los Angeles together in a bus chartered by Riverside Area Peace and Justice Action (www.rapja.org).

"We're supportive of the rallies around the world," Bartlett said. "However, that's not necessarily what our community here in the Temecula Valley is really about. What plays in San Francisco won't play in Temecula. That's why we chose a reflective candlelight vigil for our commemoration."

Peace Works! in Temecula Valley is a local affiliate of the Fellowship of Reconciliation, an international, interfaith organization dedicated to non-violence. We are the people of the Temecula Valley working together as members of the global community to recognize and honor diversity and support active, peaceful responses to local, regional, and world conflicts.

There goes the neighborhood!

Temecula is such a pretty town with neat little restaurants, shops, wineries, and a pleasant climate.

What a shame for the town to be invaded by a rag tag mob of street rabble like these protesters.

Well I suppose it is a little better than having the Hell's Angels hold their national convention there -- just a little.

ha ahhh

but what do I know?

I don't even live there nor have I ever been there because it would reveal what an armpit Temecula is and exactly how ignorant and or disingenuous one can be...

Nader Speaks

by Nader Himself Thursday, Mar. 11, 2004 at 7:05 PM

"The cost of war has been paid in blood, by the people of Iraq and by the men and women of the United States military -- including some from our community."

Quit mourning Saddam's decommissioned shredder and move to France.

Nader is scum

by Gulbeddin Friday, Mar. 12, 2004 at 3:29 AM

If he really wanted America to be a better place he wouldn't run this time. It's a narcissistic Quixotic ego trip for him and he'll siphon off the votes that might let Bush win a second term.

Nader is a scumbag.
