Anarchists in LBC plan to replace the institutions set up by the city with a new community controlled programs, and councils
Today the Anarchists residing in a community shop they call the A-Occasions Community Headquarters, have planned to make a bold announcement at City Hall's meeting. They claim they are going to replace City Council with a people's council with consensed spokesperson's from collectives of each district in Long Beach. They also claim that they are starting a new program to replace ALL institutions set up by what they call "The System". They say they will setup a new food distribution collective consisting of people from the community growing food instead of lawns, and want to takeover abandoned lots to turn them into gardens. They also wish to take food that chain stores throw away and distribute it to the community. They also claim they are starting programs to negotiate gang truces, school unions, college unions, work unions, and housing unions. Getting more bold the anarchists say they will setup programs to watch the police, and police their own communities. How? They say the community can do all of this, if it is organized. "We have been telling people that we don't need bosses, landlords, and governments to live our lives, we can do everything we need to live ourselves." Anarchists say that they are starting a council called, "The People's Council Of Long Beach" which all of the community is invited to join and start organizing in different departments they call collectives. This is another strange turn of events since the anarchists first introduced themselves in Long Beach on May 1st 2001, when they battled with the police downtown. After opening A-Occasions they created a air of mystery on what they were planning on doing with the space. Many questions arose when they organized a Police Brutality Demo on Febuary 9th after the shooting of Marcella Byrd. After it all turned out peaceful I asked one anarchist, who calls himself A-Day, if he has finally decided to follow the law on demonstrations, which he stated, "No, its all part of the plan." Anarchists refused to comment any more than that, but I have a feeling that a lot more surprises are about to come.

May every tender moment of discontent lead you to action, an action born from the vunderablity and pain of your discontent. May your revolt turn the soil green with food, not red with blood, may you face the police with tears of seperation not tears from gas. my deepest support, and my best resourses are finding their way to your door. peace is and does thrive in us all......... love, angel

First off, this sounds authoritarian; Not the ideas, as they are ideal, but the fact that you consider the A-Occassions a "Community Headquarters."
How can you group everyone from the A-Occassions collective into this plan of YOURS to take 'bold announcements' to the Long Beach City Council, when there was no consent about this by the majority of the A-Occassions?
Who consented on this article? ...the small 'anonymous' illegalists of the Final Days Network?!
Who is the Final Days publication for? ...violence-romanticizing individuals who seem to be more concerned with destruction than creation - how is that Anarchism?!
And if the A-Occassions is already a "Community Headqaurters," then why are more than five people that i know, feeling alienated from the space?
I am not trying to diss the infoshop as a whole, nor the collective as a whole, (because there are amazing individuals involved with great intentions) but you have to be supported by the community of Long Beach (and I doubt you are there yet).
So, "they", is referring to whom? All the Anarchists in Long Beach? This is bullshit! You know very well that there are a lot of internal problems, not only amongst how we treat each other, but how we view ourselves. This kind of statement does not deserve to be made, when our community is in shambles. When there are people who continue to make mistakes like i have, going on without consequence.
Since I am from Long Beach, and many of you know me, and know my mistakes, I feel that I am able to give an opinion about this. I am not trying to make myself look better, because I know that I can fuck up a lot too. I have been one to hurt different people in my past. I have done some fucked up shit, but it is sad that it took disaster for me to open my eyes to myself and to the failures present in the Anarchist Movement. It seems like it is going to have to take disaster for some of you to open your eyes and your hearts as well... Stop talking! Listen (its hard, i know)
This statement by RAMPAGE sounds too cocky and naieve. Are you, small group of privileged, no rent paying kids, going to be able to fulfill these promises? Are you recognizing the vanguardist tone? At least, I somewhat sense it. But I bet since I am no longer working with some of you, that my concerns mean shit.
Most of you have not even lived in Long Beach for more than a year or two. What community organizing have you done so far? You sound as if you are on top of your shit, when you are just fucking dreaming. We will get there one day, but for now, if a small number of you go to the city council and act as representatives of Anarchism, and more so, Anarchists in Long Beach, then you will be embarrassing us and making shit worse. It seems like a bad joke.
Anarchism takes time. Revolution is a social transformation. You do not provide the answers! We create the truth together. We must not make false promises, especially ones that are as big as this!
I ask one of you how you propose to do all of this without having dealt with your personal behaviors. We all have a lot to learn, and making mysterious statements that try to sound all grand and whatnot, are not going to gather people. I ask a question because I want to see us do things inteligently and responsibly (with morals and ethics intact), but the only sloppy reply seems to be...
""No, its all part of the plan." Anarchists refused to comment any more than that, but I have a feeling that a lot more surprises are about to come."
(I apologise right now for being frustrated, and I am not trying to be above anyone here. Criticisms are made out of love. I admit I could be faulty, and I welcome feedback)

i used to be really into anarchism but i got turned off by all this fucking talk. Communication is good and all but i think actions speak louder. I think everything that the group is proposing to do are great ideas. we can argue all we want over wether or not it is authoritarian but i think the actions are all good ideas.

in reply to everyone,
If you are turned off with people talking/coming to decisions with eachother but you would instead prefer people to revert to poorly planned irrational authoritarian action like that which is described above then yes maybe anarchism might be a poor choice for you. Anarchism to me means equality and solidarity I don't see either of these in the sole act of action without anything behind it. i think the state would love it if we reverted to blind action. that would give them an excuse to jail us all.
The author of this posts article called this post a joke tonight at the infoshop meeting. I think its damaging to the local anarchist community and LB infoshop what was posted here, even if it was a joke. And its easy to call something a joke everytime people disagree and give criticism. take responsibily.
This proposal above I believe is attempting to do something on such wide of a scale with so few people even in agreement and such a small network of people that its doomed to fail. i feel it is totally irrational. we have little contact with the half a million that live in long beach. we have a lot to learn about organizing ..was this proposal a realistic possibility at this point in time? I don't think so at all. and to me it was a sort of a last straw.
I don't want personal issues to be confused with the infoshop issues. these are two totally different issues and i think right now there is a lot of drama. there are some fundamental differences in belief. and what i've written here is just a tiny tiny scrape of the surface.

This is an article about anarchist organizing in Brazil, and some ideas about global networking. It's also a pleasant travel story about going to the WSF.

i dont think taking inititive for postive change is authoritarian.
Insurrection is desire rebelling against value.
Whoever insurges openly against one's own and others' oppression does not seek leaders, other directives, other cages to take the place of this society, nor do they seek affiliates. This is not the first time we find ourselves faced with a similar dilemma: how to transcend the limitation of the means? Reach out beyond the constriction of the roles.Encounter those who have begun their individual insurrection, but find their path obstructed by a pile of blunt attacks ...

obviously taking inititive for positive change is not wrong .. but when you take inititive without the consensus of your group and you claim that the entire group is in compliance then that is authoritarian.
also romanticizing and spouting irrational revolutionary statements that are not realistic at all given the current situation of the movement i think is counter productiev and dosn't change shit. that is just criticism.
i think this post was definetly authoritarian and irrational. and i'm sick of talking about it
