They claim they are going to replace City Council with a people's council with consensed spokesperson's from collectives of each district in Long Beach. They also claim that they are starting a new program to replace ALL institutions set up by what they call \"The System\". They say they will setup a new food distribution collective consisting of people from the community growing food instead of lawns, and want to takeover abandoned lots to turn them into gardens. They also wish to take food that chain stores throw away and distribute it to the community. They also claim they are starting programs to negotiate gang truces, school unions, college unions, work unions, and housing unions. Getting more bold the anarchists say they will setup programs to watch the police, and police their own communities. How? They say the community can do all of this, if it is organized. \"We have been telling people that we don't need bosses, landlords, and governments to live our lives, we can do everything we need to live ourselves.\" <br> <br> Anarchists say that they are starting a council called, \"The People's Council Of Long Beach\" which all of the community is invited to join and start organizing in different departments they call collectives. This is another strange turn of events since the anarchists first introduced themselves in Long Beach on May 1st 2001, when they battled with the police downtown. After opening A-Occasions they created a air of mystery on what they were planning on doing with the space. Many questions arose when they organized a Police Brutality Demo on Febuary 9th after the shooting of Marcella Byrd. After it all turned out peaceful I asked one anarchist, who calls himself A-Day, if he has finally decided to follow the law on demonstrations, which he stated, \"No, its all part of the plan.\" Anarchists refused to comment any more than that, but I have a feeling that a lot more surprises are about to come. <br><br> -Agent Rampage of The Final Days News Network<\/p>\n","contact":"","link":"","address":"","phone":"","parent_id":0,"mime_type":"text\/plain","summary":"Anarchists in LBC plan to replace the institutions set up by the city with a new community controlled programs, and councils","numcomment":12,"fileurl":"\/uploads\/","filesize":null,"article_url":"\/news\/2002\/02\/14872.php"},"attachments":[],"comments":[{"id":14874,"heading":"jeb","article":"all of the anarchist? huh? so there was a consensus?\r\nor was this the decision of some authoritarian dictators?","author":"hey","parent_id":14872,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2002-02-14 02:18:34","modified":"2002-02-14 03:00:22","fileurl":""},{"id":14879,"heading":"giving it","article":"\r\n\r\n May every tender moment of discontent lead you to action, an action born from the vunderablity and pain of your discontent. All the Anarchists in Long Beach? This is bullshit! You know very well that there are a lot of internal problems, not only amongst how we treat each other, but how we view ourselves. This kind of statement does not deserve to be made, when our community is in shambles. When there are people who continue to make mistakes like i have, going on without consequence. \r\n\r\nSince I am from Long Beach, and many of you know me, and know my mistakes, I feel that I am able to give an opinion about this. I am not trying to make myself look better, because I know that I can fuck up a lot too. I have been one to hurt different people in my past. I have done some fucked up shit, but it is sad that it took disaster for me to open my eyes to myself and to the failures present in the Anarchist Movement. It seems like it is going to have to take disaster for some of you to open your eyes and your hearts as well... Stop talking! Listen (its hard, i know)\r\n\r\nThis statement by RAMPAGE sounds too cocky and naieve. Are you, small group of privileged, no rent paying kids, going to be able to fulfill these promises? Are you recognizing the vanguardist tone? At least, I somewhat sense it. But I bet since I am no longer working with some of you, that my concerns mean shit. \r\n\r\nMost of you have not even lived in Long Beach for more than a year or two. What community organizing have you done so far? You sound as if you are on top of your shit, when you are just fucking dreaming. We will get there one day, but for now, if a small number of you go to the city council and act as representatives of Anarchism, and more so, Anarchists in Long Beach, then you will be embarrassing us and making shit worse. It seems like a bad joke.\r\n\r\nAnarchism takes time. Revolution is a social transformation. You do not provide the answers! We create the truth together. We must not make false promises, especially ones that are as big as this! \r\n\r\nI ask one of you how you propose to do all of this without having dealt with your personal behaviors. We all have a lot to learn, and making mysterious statements that try to sound all grand and whatnot, are not going to gather people. I ask a question because I want to see us do things inteligently and responsibly (with morals and ethics intact), but the only sloppy reply seems to be...\r\n\r\n\"\"No, its all part of the plan.\" Anarchists refused to comment any more than that, but I have a feeling that a lot more surprises are about to come.\"\r\n\r\n(I apologise right now for being frustrated, and I am not trying to be above anyone here.
