WEST HOLLYWOOD UPDATE: TUESDAY IS D-DAY FOR CLUB 7969 @CITY COUNCIL

Club 7969 [Peanuts] hopes it can convince the West Hollywood City Council this Tuesday night to reverse the Business License Commisssion' closure of its renowned transgender, youth and lesbian nightclubs.

Transgender icon Ru Paul performed at last Friday night's famed drag show at West Hollywood's Club 7969. The show will go on as scheduled again Monday night, but before Tuesday night's popular lesbian show, Ru and other supporters and the club's new management team will try for a showstopper before a very different audience - the West Hollywood City Council.

The council has agendaed the Club's appeal of the Business License Commission's revocation of its operating licenses at its January 22, 6:30 p.m. meeting at the West Hollywood Auditorium, 647 N. San Vicente Boulevard.

Dan Levy, the Club's Community Relations Director, said a new management team including John St. James, formerly of the Revolver Club, is encouraging supporters who are residents in the surrounding neighborhood and the rest of the city to attend Tuesday's meeting.

In response to the complaints of late-night noise and nuisance by patrons that led to the Commission's November revocation order, the Club has nearly doubled security, including roving private patrol cars. Club manager Phil Walsh said the several neighbors that previously complained have complimented him on the new measures.

One city employee told a transgender advisory meeting that he regrets that the Club was not as responsive after earlier complaints, as this could have prevented the closure order.
