Women Say NO to WAR! \\
Today, March 8, 2003, an estimated two thousand people marched and rallied at the federal building in Westwood. They were protesting the anticipated war with Iraq on International Women's Day. Featured speakers included Ed Asner, Danny Glover, Ron Kovic, Wendy Malick of 'Just Shoot Me', and David Clennon who has recently withstood attempts to have him fired for his outspoken views on George Bush.

The march rallied in front of the corporate offices of Occidental Petrolium shouting such slogans as "NO BLOOD FOR OIL". The group then proceeded to the local starbucks and condemned their business practices.

There were Women's Day activities at McArthur Park as well

Truly an International Women's Day, check out the reports from Canada

UPDATE! Amy Goodman, Alice Walker, and Code Pink founder Medea Benjamin were among 23 women arrested at the white house as part of the global women's day protests against the war!

Attend Against Media Consolidation

After a far-away snowstorm canceled February's FCC event, USC will host FCC Commisioner Michael Copps and others for a panel on media consolidation. The event will take place at USC this Monday from 8:30 to 1:30. For USC info on the event, click here. Organizers had targeted the February event as a way to pressure the FCC and criticism friendly Copps to not relax the regulatory body's media ownership rules. Click here for the activist strategy.

Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center is one of the top-ranked hospitals in the nation. Rancho provides comprehensive services for patients recovering from trauma injuries, strokes, disease, and other debilitating conditions so that they can move on to lead productive lives. Rancho treats all patients, regardless of ability to pay or citizenship status. The Board of Supervisors has voted to close the nationally renowned facitily June 30 if more funding is not brought into the health system. This is all happening in a time when our government is spending billions to drop bombs on innocent people. The cost of just a few of those bombs would be enough to keep Rancho open.

Join us in helping to stop the closure of Rancho Los Amigos. Protest at the Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday, April 29, 9:30am. 500 W. Temple Street, room 381B, Kenneth Hahn Hall. (Temple and Grand in Downtown LA).

ATTENTION ACTIVISTS! STOP The WTO and the Anti-Life Practices and Polices of Agribusiness

European officials are resisting the insane policies of american agribusiness and the Bush administration is calling their refusal to admit genetically modified foods into their countries illegal. This development in association with protests could spell the end for the WTO! Converge on Sacramento and let your voice be heard. On June 22-25, Sacramento is an important destination for anyone concerned about genetically engineered foods, the rights of small farmers, and the environment and agricultural biotech companies controlling the world's food supply. This meeting will be a stepping stone to the September WTO Ministerial in Cancun and the Summit of the Americas on FTAA scheduled for Miami in November.

Indymedia networks are all over this event. Check out these sites for comprehensive background data, organizing/transportation/housing info, and relevent links:

People who can't make it to Cancun still have an opportunity to participate in global actions to protest the WTO. The San Diego IMC has information about a big event this Saturday at the US-Mexico border supporting the protests.
