One-hundred-five years ago on February 4th, the US "bought" the Philippines from Spain for $20 million (after a successful popular revolution), and took over the role of colonizer, beginning a four-year war that would end in the deaths of between 200,000 and 1.4 million Filipinos. The exact number is unknown, and the war itself is systematically revised in history, when it's referred to as the "Phillipine Insurrecton" in the US.
