With times, frequencies, and websites for listening at home. 3 files- Highest quality broadcast, regular broadcast, and slow-modem streaming. Sputnik Radio, NHK Japan, Radio Havana Cuba, and Spanish National Radio.

Dear Radio Friend,

This week's show features stories from Sputnik Radio, NHK World Radio Japan, Radio Havana Cuba, and Spanish National Radio.

From RUSSIA- On his program called Going Underground, Afshin Rattansi interviewed John Pilger, legendary documentarian. This took place a few days before Trump announced the US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal. Using the examples of Robert Fisk and Seymour Hersh, they talked about the declining state of journalism, where those who present information out of sync with the mainstream media are called dupes and apologists. John criticizes those in the media who fail to investigate what their governments claim and merely repeat propaganda. He describes the significance of Iranian independence and why it is has been a target of the US and Israel since the 1950s. With the US cabinet now including John Bolton and Mike Pompeo, the possibility of a new large scale war has increased. Pilger adds that it is the public's duty to question the honesty and motivations of their governments.

From JAPAN- Japanese President Abe held a one on one meeting with the Chinese Premier to discuss normalizing bilateral ties and strategies about the Korean situation. Japanese leaders found the US withdrawing from the Iran deal extremely regrettable, and that they will continue to support the nuclear deal. Japan is upset that US sanctions on Iran will complicate their oil and natural gas imports as well as their machinery and steel exports. Japan has allowed an 8th nuclear reactor to start up.

From CUBA- UN Secretary General Guterres addressed the opening of the annual meeting of the Economic Commission of Latin America and the Caribbean going on in Havana. Cuba took great exception to remarks by US vice-president Pence attacking Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela as a dark cloud of tyranny. The government of Venezuela has renounced its membership in the Organization of American States, saying the OAS was a colonial body at the service of the US. Israel is accused of a missile strike south of Damascus. The National Rifle Association announced their next president will be Oliver North of Iran-Contra fame.

From SPAIN- Alison Hughes reviewed the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute report on world military spending for the year 2017- 1.7 trillion dollars, or 0 dollars for each person on the planet. The US led the pack, spending more than the next 7 highest spending countries. The US has approximately 800 formal military bases overseas in 80 countries- only 11 other countries have bases in foreign countries, 70 bases altogether.
