On Friday, March 11th at The Virgil Theater in Silver Lake, a standing room crowd enthusiastically surrounded the stage to hear the evocative music of Jett-k, and celebrate the launch of her debut EP “Stark Night”.
Elegantly dressed in black, against the backdrop of the 1920’s speak easy stage, the youthful chanteuse appeared graceful, confident, and gracious to her adoring crowd.
While her music may be referred to as “ethereal and intimate”, her voice is strong, pure and unforgettable. Incorporating the Chinese guzheng, which she played effortlessly, she was surrounded by musicians she called the “best of the best”, and based on the applause of the audience as each was introduced, they couldn’t have agreed more.
The phenomenal musicians are equally stunning in their musicianship as they are in appearance. They include: Lauren Baba (Violin), Nicholas Schuyler Baker (Percussion), Isaiah Gage (Cello), Greg Fleischut (Guitar), and Ben Levinson (Bass).
The forty-five minute beautifully executed set included almost all original compositions and orchestrations, with the exception of a crowd favorite cover of a You Ya 60’s song sung in Mandarin
.
If you missed this extraordinary performance don’t worry, there will be many more opportunities. This is a band with colossal talent, and an enormous future ahead of them.
