A fool proves how generous he is, goes an old saying, when he opens up his mouth and gives himself away. Well, the social media have given us the way to open ourselves up and give ourselves away. The image of Americans as pioneers, explorers, builders, adventurers or anything else admirable has been crushed under the avalanche of petty, ignorant, lazy blurts.
The giant incorporated internet has done to our vast wealth of knowledge what the giant food corporations have done to our natural bounty from the earth. The corporations buy up the fresh, wholesome products of the farms and turn it into worthless , nutritionless trash with a shelf life of forever. What fresh food is left is very expensive because of the huge reduction of available volume. Our blessings of good crops have been turned into junk food.
In similar manner the huge volumes of knowledge and information available to us have been turned into worthless junk think. On facebook it's silly memes, kitty wisdom, snarky one liners, cutesy depictions of nothing and false information, all repeated millions of times over and over and over. On linkedin it's over thinking to the extreme on every topic imaginable and then packaging the excess details into “expertise” to sell as marketing services. On twitter it's … well, it's full of twits.
Imagine those who used to respect and fear us being able to see what idiots we really are.
There's another old saying. Discretion is the better part of valor.
