From GERMANY- There is a widening social and economic gap in the EU, with northern countries doing better than the south. Pro-British militant groups in Ireland have been behind riots in Belfast for the past month. The name of the Palestinian Authority has been changed to the State of Palestine. India has accused Pakistani troops of crossing the militarized line in Kashmir, leading to a deadly confrontation. China has begun building a new nuclear power plant. Media in Turkey are reporting that the Turkish government and Kurdish separatists have agreed on a plan to end their 30 year long conflict. Germany, along with the US, has deployed Patriot missiles in Turkey for protection from the war in neighboring Syria.

From CHINA- Syrian rebels released 48 Iranians in an exchange with the government for more than 2000 rebels. The US has continued deadly drone strikes in Pakistan, killing 38 people in the first nine days of the new year. China will not back down on the islands they are disputing with Japan. China urged the Philippines to not develop islands in the South China Sea. China says it will reform its "reeducation through labor" program- labor camps where people can be sent without a trial.

From JAPAN- Chinese authorities are clamping down on citizen protesting censorship of a liberal newspaper. Japan has summoned the Chinese Ambassador to protest Chinese ships in waters that Japan claims. New Japanese Prime Minister Abe is planning to create new guidelines for self-defense. N Korea criticized a US plan to sell surveillance drones to S Korea. A Japanese government panel is studying how big an earthquake could occur in the Sea of Japan. Iraqis will observe the 10th anniversary of the start of the US invasion in March- meanwhile companies from across the globe are competing for new wealth created by becoming the second largest OPEC oil exporter.

From CUBA- The National Assembly of Venezuela confirmed that Hugo Chavez can still be president even if he can't be sworn in on Thursday like planned. There have been extreme forest fires and temperatures in Colombia. Argentina has condemned the military threats by British PM David Cameron over the Malvinas Islands, which the British call the Falklands.

From RUSSIA- Russia is hoping that the three way meeting held in Geneva will bring a solution to the Syrian conflict. The nomination of John Brennan as the new head of the CIA heightens the global awareness of drone strikes- CIA drone strikes have killed more than 3000 people in Pakistan and Yemen alone.

I was interviewed for an informative weekly radio show Mediageek, available at http://radio.mediageek.net

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.

NEW TIME SLOT on KZYX! This program will be aired on Sunday afternoon at 4pm (PDST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org >

I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)

"I’m worried that students will take their obedient place in society and look to become successful cogs in the wheel - let the wheel spin them around as it wants without taking a look at what they're doing. I'm concerned that students not become passive acceptors of the official doctrine that's handed down to them from the White House, the media, textbooks, teachers and preachers"
