The top 1% who used to take 10% of national income in 1979 have 23%. The economy has grown more slowly. Collective capital brought about infrastructure and scientific discoveries. People from age 3 have one story shouted at them all the time. Countries should grow in their own interest.

1. There is no such thing as a free market

2. Companies should not be run in the interest of their owners.

3. Most people in rich countries are paid more than they should be.

4. We do not live in a post-industrial age.

5. US does not have the highest living standard.

6. Making the rich richer doesn't make the rest of us richer.

7. Despite the fall of communism, we are in fact living in planned economies.

8. Financial markets need to become less efficient, not more.

For over 250 years the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) has been a cradle of enlightenment thinking and a force for social progress. Our approach is multi-disciplinary, politically independent and combines cutting edge research and policy development with practical action.
