SoCal Connected Profiles The Unintended Consequences of U.S. Immigration Policy

by Nick Jones Wednesday, Mar. 16, 2011 at 10:00 AM

Arrests and deportations of the undocumented are on the rise, while states and cities are beginning to pass their own anti-immigration laws amidst unsuccessful efforts by the federal government. SoCal Connected profiles the Morales family from Orange County; torn apart when the parents are deported to Mexico while their U.S. born children are left behind and raised by an older sibling.

From advocates of the recently rejected Dream Act, to those who propose a repeal of the 14th Amendment that guarantees citizenship to anyone born in the U.S., lawmakers at the federal and local level are facing an increasingly frustrated public.

In a 30 minute special report, SoCal Connected correspondent and Orange County Register columnist Yvette Cabrera reports on the nation’s perennial debate over immigration in “A Border Between Them,” airing Thursday, March 17 at 9:00 p.m. on KCET 28 in the Los Angeles Area or online at KCET.org

Immediately following “A Border Between Them,” Cabrera will continue the story with a panel discussion of parties on both sides of the issue and moderated by SoCal Connected anchor, Val Zavala.
