Ever since the 1965 book release of "Unsafe at Any Speed," about the U.S. auto industry's reckless disregard for passenger safety, Ralph Nader has been known as a people's lawyer, fighting to protect consumers and the environment from rapacious and greedy corporations. Nader went on to run for president four times, twice with the Green Party in 1996 and 2000 -- and twice as an independent in 2004 and 2008, where he promoted campaign finance and electoral reforms to strengthen grassroots democracy.
