by Ruth Robertson Wednesday, Mar. 10, 2010 at 1:45 AM

--Fed Up Bank Customers "Put Some Teeth" into Movement to take back the power of the ordinary citizen to affect US economic structure-- Join the stealth action AND/OR move your money out of a big bank and into a credit union/local bank today-- If you've done that already, we want to hear from you...

Stealth Action Again...

In California and New York, activists working with A New Way Forward (ANWF) have been taking their message to the four biggest banks with culture jamming at ATM's. In California, members of the Raging Grannies placed ferocious animal masks over bank card insert slots at ATM's at two of the biggest banks and recorded the customer reaction. See the video:

Meanwhile in New York, Lou Campagna made vampire masks with bank insignia for ATM's at all four of the banks targeted for this action, JPMorgan/Chase, Citibank, Bank of America and Wells Fargo.

Ruth Robertson of ANWF said, "Despite limited new consumer protections that went into effect last month, the big credit card companies are already playing some new games. Big banks are raising minimum payments, lowering card limits, and raising interest rates…all in the fine print of course."

Tiffiniy Cheng of ANWF, helped launch a campaign last month that focused on "what we call the abusive relationship between customers and their banks. As the banking industry continues secret lobbying in DC, we are promoting serious discussion at the grassroots level," said Ms. Cheng. "Our campaign called Break Up with Your Bank started on Valentine's Day, February 14 and as of today bank customers have already moved over 7,000 of their hard earned dollars from the big banks to local/regional banks or credit unions."

Recent Zogby polls showed 32% of people have considered boycotting the big banks and 9% actually have.

IF YOU'VE MOVED YOUR MONEY ANWF WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU! (contact ruth@anewwayforward.org)
