ALEX SÁNCHEZ'S BAIL HEARING DELAYED

by WE ARE ALEX Sunday, Jul. 19, 2009 at 9:46 AM

On Wednesday, The Honorable Judge Manuel Real adjourned Alex's bail appeal hearing and ordered that the proceedings be continued Monday, August 17th, 2009

The unexpected turn came when the prosecution was unable to present the alleged wiretap evidence. "I want to hear the tapes," said Judge Real. After several awkward moments of discussion with LAPD officers in the courtroom, the prosecuter Elizabeth Carpenter informed the Judge that some of the tapes were believed to be in Northridge and others in Westwood and could not be delivered in court that day.

Defense Attorney Kerry Bensinger then requested that he be provided with copy of the mentioned evidence, as the prosecutor had failed to comply with the two week old order to turn over discovery.

Despite the federal issued white jump suit and the clanging of body shackles, Alex entered the courtroom with his head held high. He called earlier in the week and expressed his inspiration and deep gratitude for the large showing of support.

The supporters in attendance, were steadfast in their faith in Alex's innocence. As a testament to the lives Alex has touched, you, the nationwide community of supporters offered the court hundreds of letters of faith and over $2.5 million in sureties to secure his release on bail.

As stated in the appeal, the charges against Mr. Sanchez are utterly incompatible with not only his reputation in the community, but also the steps he has taken, programs he has started, and lives he has changed, for more than 12 years.

The government has been aware of this alleged evidence since on or about May 6th, 2006. If Alex truly presented a danger to the community, he would not have been on the streets free for the past three years. This three year delay between the date of the allegations and the date of Alex's arrest is strong evidence that he does not present a danger to the community.

While the U.S. Attorney uses unlimited funds and resources to build their case against him, Alex will be locked away.

The denial of bail is a denial of Alex's equal opportunity to defend himself.

A fair trial for Alex begins with granting him bail.

We the supporters of Alex will not tire in our pursuit for this.

We are dedicated to peace. We are committed to justice. We Are Alex.

FAIR TRIAL FOR ALEX
