This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, and the Voice of Russia.

From CHINA- After being banned for 59 years, the first ship carrying Chinese tourists arrived in Taiwan. China is filing a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization challenging the US ban on Chinese poultry imports. Part of China's economic stimulus plan encourages farmers to buy automobiles and motorcycles. China is stepping up patrols in the South China Sea. Beaches along Queensland in Australia are contaminated by a large oil spill from a tanker. A UN report points out the ever increasing demand for fresh water on the planet. The US military shot down an Iranian drone in Iraqi territory in February. In Pakistan, all the judges and Chief Justice have been returned to their positions, in the face of mounting civil unrest.

From NETHERLANDS- Radio Netherlands has eliminated shortwave broadcasts to North America. The decision is based on their surveys that find very few listeners in N America. More on Pakistan- the Prime Minister's restoration of judges is seen by many as a weakness and a possible precursor to more conflicts with the President. Israel's Prime Minister elect Netanyahu signed a power sharing deal with a controversial far-right party. El Salvador elected a new left-wing President, Mauricio Funes, though many consider him a moderate.

From CUBA- A Viewpoint on the election of President Funes in El Salvador. Tristan Anderson, an activist from California, was critically injured when an Israeli soldier fired a tear gas canister directly at his head during a non-violent protest.

From RUSSIA- A commentary on the reasons that the US military is being asked to leave the air base they have used in Kyrgystan.
