Sarah Dylan Sings Hope Tonight for Barack Obama MTV Inaugural Ball

by Robin Churchill Monday, Dec. 01, 2008 at 9:21 PM

A musical tribute to President elect Barack Obama from the young generation.

Al Gore says, “In a time of darkness, you don’t curse the darkness, you light a candle.” In today’s climate of fear and darkness, the light shining upon the world is the United States of America which has boldly moved from slavery to a black President, Barack Obama.

In his book “The Audacity of Hope”, Barack Obama tells the story of how he met President George W. Bush. President Bush warmly shook Barack Obama’s hand. Then, President Bush turned to an aide who proceeded to squirt a big gob of hand sanitizer into the president’s hand. The president then dry washed his hands and said, “Good stuff, keeps you from getting colds”, as he offered some to Senator Obama. Senator Obama said, “Thanks, but no thanks, for the sanitizer to nowhere.”

One would think that President Bush, like Howard Hughes and Howie Mandel, well known germaphobes, would be the chairman of the Al Gore Environmentalist Club, but one would be wrong. That honor belongs to President elect Barack Obama. For all the talk in the media about clean coal technology, one would think that it actually existed, but according to Nobel Laureate Al Gore in his current interview in Newsweek Magazine, “Don’t Count on Magic”, it does not exist. Al Gore said, “We cannot allow an illusion to be the basis of a strategy for human survival.”

Music Legend Bob Dylan is 67 years old. Until his endorsement of Barack Obama, Bob Dylan had never before endorsed a political candidate. Bob Dylan told The Times of London, "Well, you know right now America is in a state of upheaval. Poverty is demoralizing. You can't expect people to have the virtue of purity when they are poor. But we've got this guy out there now who is redefining the nature of politics from the ground up — Barack Obama. He's redefining what a politician is, so we'll have to see how things play out. Am I hopeful? Yes, I'm hopeful that things might change. Some things are going to have to."

Barack Obama is the real life Cinderella. On January 20, 2009, MTV will be hosting Barack Obama’s Inaugural Ball. MTV will be hosting the 'Be the Change Inaugural Ball' at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Centre in Washington on January 20, 2009. The Inaugural Ball will be broadcast live on MTV.com and on the network's various channels, and will feature leading artists, celebrities and government officials. MTV's announcement comes as a host of organisations are planning inaugural balls in Washington, where more than a million people are expected to be drawn to the country's capital for the occasion. The network will join ServiceNation, a non-profit organisation that promotes community service, in co-hosting the Inaugural Ball.

ServiceNation is a campaign to inspire a new era of voluntary citizen service in America, an America where citizens unite and take responsibility for the nation’s future. ServiceNation is about an America committed to shared sacrifice in pursuit of America’s boldest promise, liberty and justice for all.

This past summer, 17 year old Sarah Dylan traveled to China with Free the Children/ Leaders Today. From her blog “An Orphan Needs OUR Help - China Trip”, on her MySpace, Sarah Dylan recounts her trip to China: “So... I recently went to China with Free the Children/Leaders Today and it was probably the most influential experience of my life. I visited Hebai, Henan, and Gansu. We taught English to children in small villages, painted schools, leveled play-grounds, pulled lots of weeds, and just got to see the way of life of many people. One of the high-lights of the trip was visiting the Shaolin temple, and learning Kung-Fu and meditation with the monks. It was truly amazing.”

“When we were at the temple, something very scary happened. While we were meeting the orphans from the Shaolin Orphanage, one of them fainted. He had to be rushed to the hospital and everyone was extremely worried. We all thought it might have just been heat stroke, but it turns out that he has a condition and needs surgery. However, the Shaolin Orphanage does not have the funds to pay for his proper treatment. So... for my upcoming show on August 16th at the Kathedral, I am using all of the money from ticket sales towards helping this orphan. Tickets are 10$...but if you would like to donate more.. please let me know cuz that would be really really awesome.”

At a recent comedy roast, Barack Obama joked that he wasn’t born in a manger. Barack Obama is an idealist but also a pragmatist who realizes that we all must come together now and sacrifice in order to change the world into the place we want it to be. Barack Obama understands that he is just a cog in a wheel called Earth and alone he cannot do a thing – it will take all of us pulling in the same direction together.

In the chorus of her new song “Hope Tonight” Sarah Dylan sings, “Am I standing alone tonight, Do you feel what I feel or are you hiding, How should I know, where do I go to find, Hope Tonight?” You can watch and hear Sarah Dylan perform on her MySpace site, http://www.myspace.com/sarahdylanmusic (If you can’t hear it just slide the volume control, the trumpet blaring icon to the right.) May God Bless Barack Obama and may God Bless all of the people of Planet Earth with a brighter day.
