The Drug-Free Marshals program, aimed at eliminating drug abuse with education programs for younger children, recently celebrated its 15th anniversary by developing the Drug-Free Mentors program to reach older age groups with a drug-free message.

April 26, 2008 - Clearwater, Fl - The Foundation for a Drug-Free World, the Mt. Carmel Community Development Corporation of Clearwater and the North Greenwood Community Coalition marshaled hundreds of children from across the Clearwater area at the North Greenwood Aquatic and Recreation Center in Clearwater on Saturday the 26th of April to celebrate 15 years of service provided by the Drug-Free Marshals, announced a new project in the form of Drug-Free Mentors and recognized children and adults who are leading the way to a Drug-Free World.

Isis Hughes was 10 years old when the Drug Free Marshals campaign was launched in 1993. Now a teacher at Delphi Academy in Clearwater, Ms. Hughes said, “I am proud to become a Drug-Free Mentor because I love helping children and know how important it is to teach children the truth about drugs and help them remain drug-free.” Other mentors who stepped up for their sash and recognition were 16-year-old Clearwater Academy student and Youth for a Drug-Fee Florida member Abby Winteregg, 16-year-old Washburn Academy student and Youth for a Drug-Free Florida member Felicia Figueroa, and 17-yearold Clearwater Academy student and Youth for a Drug-Free Florida member David Suggs.

Also awarded were Jai Hinson founder of the Life Force Cultural Arts Academy, The North Greenwood Neighborhood Patrol of the Clearwater Police Department, the North Greenwood Community Coalition and the Drug Demand Reduction Office of the Florida National Guard.

14-year DEA veteran, Jason Whatley also swore in all the kids present at the event as Drug Free Marshals.

Entertainment was also provided by the youth: 12-year-old singer Sally Gatza, and 8-year-old dancer Niara Purkett.
