     This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, and the Voice of Russia.

From CHINA- China's family planning policy has reduced the growth of its population by 400 million. Iran and the IAEA reached an agreement on a timetable for nuclear inspections. In reaction to India's nuclear deal with the US, Pakistan has warned that it may reconsider its agreement on a nuclear testing moratorium. Thousands of Iraqis took to the streets of eastern Baghdad Monday, protesting US and Iraqi military raids.

From NETHERLANDS- At a war crimes trial in Iraq, 15 former commanders are charged with mass killings of Shiites who rose up against Saddam at the conclusion of the first Gulf War-an analysis by a member of Human Rights Watch. Following a shift in political power in the Netherlands, there is a new approach to helping immigrants integrate into Dutch society. Then 4 pieces from the Dutch press review- a Dutch engineering company won a contract to modernize the Panama Canal; reports were issued that the dykes in the Netherlands must be raised soon as a result of ocean levels rising from global warming; bullet-proof bookbags have been developed to protect schoolchildren in the US; a Chinese industry spokesman says that demonizing Chinese products is a new form of protectionism.

From CUBA- Several dozen US trade unions marched outside the Iraq embassy in Washington, protesting the Iraq oil industry's ban on unions for oil workers. The Project For Excellence In Journalism reported that US media seriously reduced its coverage of the war in Iraq during the second quarter of this year. A leading British member of Parliament has supported calls by military chiefs that British forces to be removed from Iraq.

From RUSSIA- Seven US Petty Officers have complained that the US media is ignoring the rising social and political tensions in Iraq. A survey concludes that US experts see Russia as Washington's least useful ally. Russia says that the Russian missile that reportedly fell in Georgia a few weeks ago was staged by persons to raise tensions between the countries. Russia has resumed strategic bomber patrols around the globe that had been suspended in 1992. A commentary on the Bush administration's accelerated schedule for the executions of citizens on death row, despite the international trend away from capital punishment.
