HDFEST's Los Angeles event is coming up December 1st-3rd. This is taking place at the Dolby Laboratories Screening Room (Larry Umlang Presentation Theatre II in Burbank)

HDFEST is an all high-definition film festival. All films presented at HDFEST were created using exclusively HD cameras or HD animation. HDFEST also has a tour each year- this year the tour went to Seoul, South Korea, London, NYC, Finland... and now the final event in LA. The festival has actually been around since 2000 (not a lot of HD to show back then) but now with the introduction of lower cost HD cameras each year, HD and HDFEST is really taking off.

HDFEST seeks to show how new digital filmmaker technology is paving the way for truly independent filmmakers to create films that look like they had "big hollywood" type budgets. This will open up vast new possibilities for indie filmmakers who potentially will no longer get left behind- just because their budgets didnt allow decent image quality.

HDFEST screens a wide variety of types of films from around the world. HDFEST in LA will also showcase a series of animations created and presented in HD format. This group of HD animation is likely the first presentation of its kind at any film festival.

The festival also includes panels on HD and HDV filmmaking. HDV cameras (which are extremely low cost for indie filmmakers) are new on the filmmaking scene and HDFEST will give topics like shooting and editing with HDV consideration during the panels.

The festival is open to the public and not just for tech "geeks" or indie filmmakers. What will be interesting even for the average joe filmlover is what remarkable image quality HD filmmaking offers at this point in time. It really gives a glance into the future of what filmmaking and digital cinema will be taking all of us in the future.
