10/12/06> a room outdoors = Michael Pisaro

Michael Pisaro A room outdoors (James Orsher, harmonium; Michael
Pisaro, guitar)

"A room outdoors" was composed for James Orsher. I was reading Ron
Loewinsohn's incredible novel, "Magnetic Field(s)," at the time I was
working on the piece this summer, and came across the description of a
living room, made of discarded furniture, somewhere in the woods in
the Hudson Valley. I began to wonder if tones from musical
instruments could function like boundaries in a sonic thicket. The
field recording used in this performance was made in the vicinity of
Sandpaper Books.

Michael Pisaro is director of the Experimental Music Workshop, a
member of the Wandelweiser Composers' Ensemble, and Co-Chair of Music
Composition at the California Institute of the Arts near Los Angeles.
He is a Foundation for Contemporary Arts, 2005 and 2006 Grant
Recipient.

10/19/06> discovery tour = Edith Abeyta/Arroyo Arts Collective

Edith Abeyta is an installation artist residing in Los Angeles. She
has shown locally and nationally, receiving a public arts commission
from the Regional Arts and Culture Council of Oregon. She co-founded
and co-operated an artist run gallery and currently is on the board of
the Arroyo Arts Collective. Her art explores the undisclosed
narratives that salvaged and scavenged objects inherently contain.
Taking scissors to discarded mattresses, saws to cast away furniture,
stooping to investigate bits of found paper she combines the
re-purposing of post-consumptive artifacts with traditional women's
craft methods to investigate various aspects of production and
consumption.
