“It feels like we are being told to go fight this battle, we have guns, but no ammunition” says Dr Bjork Pediatrician at Children’s Physicians Medical Group. Clearly as a nation we are losing the battle of obesity and diabetes. According to Baylor University by the year 2032, 90% of the population will be overweight or obese.
“Obesity and sedentary lifestyles are contributing to a major public health crisis that unfortunately is not receiving the same attention from clinicians as other public health threats,” said JoAnn E. Manson, chief of preventive medicine at BWH, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School. "If we as clinicians don’t have time for prevention efforts, we need to realize that we will be spending more and more of our time managing the health consequences of obesity.”
The problem is physicians are taught to diagnose and treat disease in medical school, not nutrition or prevention. Traditionally, weight loss programs or offering nutritional counseling can be costly to a practice from a time and overhead stand point and require additional staff or carrying inventory.
“We’re on a mission to help put the power of prevention back in the hands of medical providers. Providing an easy to implement, profitable weight management program is one of the fastest growing trends in medicine today" said Greg Rex, CEO of Wellness Rx Inc.
With advances in technology, new research in nutritional intervention and lifestyle medicine, virtually any physician can offer an affordable, rapid weight loss programs, safe enough for even for their sickest patients.
In a recent study conducted by Johns Hopkins University this program was proven to be twice as effective in every measurable category than the standard ADA diet recommendations for treating Type II Diabetes. Because the program has no stimulants or drugs it is even safe enough for children and adolescents.
"Adding a structured weight management program has been one of the best business decisions I ever made”, says Scott Corliss MD, a Wellness Rx provider. “I can't tell you how rewarding this is. It’s not often we get to take people off medication, but because I have helped so many patients lose significant weight, many of them have reduced or discontinued their medication. With the success I’ve seen and the additional revenue to my practice, my next goal is to work fewer hours and start taking longer vacations with my family.”
