The artshow called new normalcy now showing at carlotta's passion gallery is really worth seeing. there are lots of artists with work on display, all with a antiwar theme. the well known names like robbie conal and mark vallen are on the walls, but there are many others whose names you might not know that are really good too. I took the pictures on the opening night, but the show is up until the end of march. go see it!
a artist named patrick merril made the huge woodcut prints called "horsemen of the apocalypse." they look like religious art but have figures in them from today, like a politician and klansman. The horsemen are riding over mounds of crushed people, with atomic bombs going off in the background.
there were a bunch of artworks by mark vallen on display. the image that is on the card announcing the show was done by this artist, and his original work is on display in the show.
i don't remember the artist's name, but he did 3 d sculpture like-images that were hung on the walls like paintings. the works looked like bar codes you see on commercial products. great stuff.
poster print by chicana great, margaret garcia. Its a portrait of a united farm workers supporter. there were other great chicano artists in the show.
