LA HABRA – Marine Lance Cpl. Hugo Lopez, 20, has died of injuries he suffered more than two months ago while serving in Iraq.

By ERIC CARPENTER The Orange County Register LA HABRA – Marine Lance Cpl. Hugo Lopez, 20, has died of injuries he suffered more than two months ago while serving in Iraq.
Lopez, who served as part of the 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, based at Camp Pendleton, was riding in a military vehicle near Rawah, Iraq, on Nov. 20 when he was critically injured by an improvised explosive device.
He suffered third-degree burns over 92 percent of his body and was transported to a military burn center in San Antonio, Texas.
Lopez died of his wounds Friday.
Family members had been traveling between La Habra and Texas to be by his side.
Lopez was a 2003 graduate of La Habra High School and a member of the school’s 2003 CIF championship football team.
