The Cucapa originally occupied much of the lower delta of the Colorado River and surrounding desert areas. Today the Cucapa live primarily in the settlement of El Mayor Cucapa, while their relatives the Cocopah live primarily in Somerton, Arizona. El Mayor is located on Mexican Highway 5 about 56 kilometers south of Mexicali. The Cucapa land base is the most extensive of all the indigenous communities of Baja California at 143,000 hectares, however much of it is parched desert without potential for agricultural or livestock activities. A large part of this land is the usually dry bed of the Laguna Salada, which has been greatly affected by fluctuations in the quantity and quality of water flowing in from the Colorado River. In years when sufficient water is released upstream, the lake fills and the Cucapa are able to practice traditional fishing activities. However contaminants either from the river itself or from toxic waste dumped within the watershed have affected the fish, as well as stagnation caused when fresh water no longer flows into the lake, all of which on occasions have caused huge numbers of fish to die.

Article below talks about the Seri people living further south along the Gulf in mainland MX. From my understanding of the article, the Mexican government is invading their village and attempting to force feed the Seri hotels and restaurauts for tourists. If they would rather live in peace without this incursion, that is their right and it needs to be respected..

BUSCA EL EJERCITO MEXICANO DESARMAR LA RESISTENCIA INDIGENA

Bajo el pretexto de brindar apoyo social a las comunidades indigenas seri, tres comandos del ejercito federal han invadido el pueblo de puntachueca, esto debido a la solicitud de desarme que hizo la PGR en dias anteriores cuando los guardias indigenas defendian su territorio del saqueo de pescadores de Bahia KINO. La comunidad rechaza la presencia militar en silencio, nadie ha participado hasta hoy en los servicios que ofrece y solo la prensa reaccionaria del periodico el imparcial ha publicado fotitos de militares cortando el pelo a los "inditos". El verdadero proposito del ejercito a decir de la comunidad es desarmar la resistencia y brindar garantias a los inversionistas extranjeros y nacionales que quieren apoderarse de su territorio rico en recursos naturales y sobre todo de la isla de tiburon donde pretenden construir hoteles y restaurantes y turismo para gringos ricachones, todo en el marco del capitalista proyecto de la escalera nautica y el proyecto de granjas de camaron que pretenden construir una transnacional americana atraves del grupo inversionista CRENE y de otros corrompidos prestanombres.

Mientras el ejercito permanesca en la comunidad indigena sera palpable y contados los dias de un posible enfrentamiento que podria generar baños de sangre de ambos lados. Es muy obvio que la presencia del ejercito es identificar a los guerreros y dejar su mensaje de control, pues si realmente se quisiera ayudar a con servicio social a la comunidad puede hacerlo el ayuntamiento o cualquier otro civil, en CHiapas esta el peor de los ejemplos de lo que representa la "labor social" del ejercito con su mentiroso plan DNIII.......seguiremos informando.....
