CLEAN ENVIRONMENT, SAFE SCHOOLS, HEALTHY CHILDREN:

California Safe Schools Celebrates Policies and Projects That Protect Children’s Health And The Environment.

How safe are our children ? Far safer than only a few years ago, according to a coalition of parent activists, school administrators, and elected officials.

Because California schools are less toxic and California kids are better educated about the relationship between the environment and their own health, the Golden State is leading the way in one of the most important fronts of protecting our kids.

"California’s children are safer today than in years past due to the cooperation of activists, administrators, and elected officials. While we continue to strive for even more protection, we are excited to be celebrating how far we have come.

California has always been in the forefront and we are pleased to join together in publicly thanking all who have worked so long and hard to bring us where we are today,' said Robina Suwol, Executive Director of California Safe Schools.

" Children are uniquely vulnerable and need far more protection than adults. We hope the future will bring far more stringent guidelines for children, said Lori Lynn concerned parent of eighth grade student.

Policies highlighted will include educational campaigns, the LAUSD Integrated Pest Mangement Policy, the Lower Emission School Bus Program and the California Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Justice Policy.

California Safe Schools is a non-profit organization with a Coalition of more than fifty supporting organizations. California Safe Schools is recognized nationally for creating a model low risk approach to eliminating pests and weeds called Integrated Pest Management (IPM). This IPM policy was the first in the nation to embrace the Precautionary Principle and Parent Right to Know. This policy later led to California Legislation ,Healthy Schools Act of 2000. California Safe Schools is committed to ensuring that all students, teachers, staff and community member who reside near school sites are free from environmental risks.
