"The Potluck for Progressives" is a group being
organized for the purpose of bringing together
likeminded people on a monthly basis to break
bread and talk about crucial issues affecting the
community.
At each meeting, people interested in peace,
social justice, labor, and the environment gather
to exchange ideas, talk about successes, plan
actions, or just engage in a friendly discussion
with one another.
Please join us! Bring a dish to share! Enjoy
the bounty that others bring as well! The potluck
will start at 6:30 P.M. with a speaker and
discussion to follow.
On the Agenda:
Progressive Potluck
6:30 - 7:30 pm
Bring along your favorite dish
of food, chips, dips, or soft
drinks, and spend an hour mingling
with progressive people from all
over Orange County.
Featured Speaker
7:30 - 8:00 pm
SUSAN LERNER, Executive Director of
the California Clean Money Campaign,
will talk about the concept of
publicly financing elections as a way
of reducing the powerful influence
that wealthy individuals and big
business interests currently have
upon the electoral process. Lerner
will specifically address a system
called "Clean Money Campaign Reform"
where qualified candidates who agree
to spending limits and reject private
contributions are given a limited but
equal amount of public money to run
their campaigns. Various adaptations
of this system are already law in
states like Arizona, Maine, Massachusetts,
and North Carolina. Come learn about
what efforts are being done closer
to home to bring publicly financed
elections here to California.
Open Forum
8:00 - 8:30 pm
Open discussion, announcements,
and other news of interest.
"The Potluck for Progressives" is sponsored
by the Unitarian Church of Orange County
and is free and open to the general public.
Although a small donation might be requested
to help pay for facility costs, nobody will
be turned away due to a lack of funds. .
