Joining Forces with Hilarious Eclectic Group of Performers Including Ed Asner, Elayne Boosler, Paula Poundstone, Rene Hicks, Jerry Quickley, Lalo Alcaraz & Ed Begley Jr

LIES & LAUGHTER: War, Poverty, Unemployment & Other Innovations of Bush America – An Evening to Benefit Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace and Pax Christi-Los Angeles

WHEN: 8PM, Thursday, Feb 19, 2004

WHERE: University Synagogue, 11960 Sunset Blvd., Brentwood

WHO: Culture Clash, hot off the stage of the Mark Taper Forum with their sold-out hit Chavez Ravine; Ed Asner, Programs MC, multiple Emmy award-winning actor and activist; Elayne Boosler, popular comic known for her feisty and thoughtful political material; Paula Poundstone, American Comedy Award-Winner; Lalo Alcaraz, editorial cartoonist of La Cucaracha for the LA Weekly; Ed Begley Jr., actor and environmental activist; Rene Hicks, the first African-American woman to ever be nominated Best Female Stand-Up Comic by the American Comedy Awards; Jerry Quickley, renowned performance poet and host of the KPFK/Pacifica Radio show, Beneath the Surface; and others.

WHAT: For the first time, two of the leading local faith-based peace organizations Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace (ICUJP) & Pax Christi-Los Angeles are raising funds using humor and pointed satire with a special night of comedy, LIES & LAUGHTER: War, Poverty, Unemployment & Other Innovations of Bush America.

"It is critical that we keep reminding people in every way we can of the truth about the Bush Administration," said comic Elayne Boosler who will also be performing. "Which is... not only does the Emperor have no clothes but he doesn’t even have a nice body politic."
