“…One of the key problems in the United States is Militarism. It’s a word that we often don’t want to even use it seems in this country, Umm at least the general population. They don’t like to think of this country as one that is militaristic, but it is. And so we see it, as one of our roles is to use that word, the “M” word… It needs to be used much more often, because until we recognize that that characterizes where we live it’s going to be very hard to dig deeper and recognize why…”

“…What has been most effective in the country in getting existing JROTC units out has been when students themselves do the organizing. Because when they educate their peers and the peers stop joining JROTC it drops below a hundred and after two years of that, by contract the unit has to disbanded…”

Retired military personnel are given a special JROTC teaching credential that doesn’t require a college degree. Meanwhile L A’s under funded schools pick up a big part of the tab (over two million $$$).
