Mumia defended MOVE prisoners

by and angered police Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004 at 10:13 PM

Mumia was one of the few journalists covering the MOVE case before the infamous C-4 bombing by police. Mumia is currently at risk in prison, we need to look at his coverage of the MOVE family an how this angered Philadelphia police.

The MOVE family started out in the 70's in Philly promoting healthy living for people in their neighborhood and worldwide. People liked the MOVE family all with the last name Africa because they helped the community and advocated healthy living..

The police did not like MOVE family because they were not contributing to the capitalist system and promoting a life free of addiction and dependence. MOVE also spoke up for all oppressed people and animals, plants etc..

In the late 70's the MOVE family came under viscious attack by the Philadelphia police. Mumia was there to cover the story and himself became a target because of his detailed reporting of continued police harassment of the MOVE family..

The Mumia frame-up occurred nearly the same time as the MOVE 9 were taken away to prison on trumped up charges. This is after he was fired from his job for being too truthful as a journalist for covering the MOVE trial. Before the incident that led to Mumia's arrest, he was already drawing anger from many police in positions of power. He would not remain silent in the face of injustice against the MOVE family and suffered because of it..

Many people supported MOVE and Mumia was key in spreading the word to the community. After the vital link between MOVE and the greater community was severed when Mumia was arrested, the MOVE issue faded from the media attention. The Philadelphia police were able to distract people by blaming the mouthpiece of justice. MOVE and Mumia were both labeled enemies and the police became the heroes..

When looking at Mumia's current health and continued incarceration, we need to remember the MOVE family and their values of health, love and compassion for all living beings, humans, animals and plants. These values contradict the current regime of hatred, fear and disrespect of life. Here we may find the answer about Mumia's innocence and the corruption of the Philadelphia police..
