humanitarian assistence

This programme of humanitarian assistance providing medicines for the Lake Tanganiyka region, will benefit refugees in the Lugufu I & II refugee camps, situated 80 km from the Tanzanian city of Kigoma, on the coast of Lake Tanganiyka. The refugees in these camps are from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and number 70,000.

On the other side of this same lake, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, are found people who have been displaced from within the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the majority of whom are based in the city of Kazimia and surrounding sites, reaching a population of 30,000 people. These displaced people are being assisted by SOS-JED, a local Non-Governmental Organisation, that works in partnership with BioAlliance. Without doubt, due to local conflicts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, these displaced persons based in and around Kazimia receive no international assistance at all.

BioAlliance is the only International (NGO) Non-Governmental Organisation present in this area of displaced persons in Kazimia in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

This project will develop over a two year time frame, with donation and distribution of medical Kits every four months (each tri-mester). BioAlliance shall be responsible for the sending of these Kits and of their correct arrival at the indicated sites, as well as of their distribution. The short term objective of the programme is to attend urgently to the problems of death causing diseases, while in the medium and long term to focus on the tasks of disease prevention, education and teaching about diseases.

To accomplish these objectives and the logistical effort, BioAlliance will work with local NGO (Non-Governmental Organisation) partners, who know the local cultures and languages of these nationalities, with the aim to minimise (reduce) comprehension problems and problems in adapting to the situation on the ground.

This programme has the support of the Kivu District Administration in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and of the Kigoma District Administration in Tanzania. Authorisation for access to the Lugufu I & II refugee camps has been secured while the programme is also supported by the Tanzanian Red Cross.
