A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.1MB) and quick download (3.2MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Russia, China, and Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (October 24) is up at the websitehttp://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.1MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:48) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better- http://www.freakradio.org Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) now streams this program on Friday at 9:30am (PDST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.radiolavalamp.org
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, the Voice of Russia, China Radio International, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- The Bolivian farmers who led the revolt against the now resigned president say that they will give the new one a 90 day truce to implement reforms. Opposition leaders in Bolivia want the ousted President tried for genocide. The number of tolerated coffeeshops selling marijuana in the Netherlands has dropped slightly. On Monday Israel made multiple attacks on Palestinians while Prime Minister Sharon reasserted that Arafat must be removed. At the UN there was a vote directing Israel to stop building the wall around Palestine, which passed by 140 votes to 4 votes- Israel has defied the resolution and continues to build. Human Rights Watch released a report accusing the US military of using excessive force against civilians and failing to investigate deaths.
From Russia- Prior to the Madrid meeting seeking donors for the rebuilding of Iraq, Russia had stated it would not contribute. There is much controversy about the entry of Turkish troops into Iraq, both from Iraqis and Turks.
From China- The US says more reserve troops will be called to go to Iraq in the next month. The US says good progress is being made in resolving the conflicts with N Korea. N Korea says Bush’s offer is “laughable.” Pakistan says it will seriously consider India’s latest offer to reduce tension, but that the state of Kashmir is absent from India’s offer. China is opposed to any country offering assistance to the Dalai Lama.
From Cuba- While the Israeli-Palestinian war rages on, moderates on both sides are continuing to pursue an alternative Middle East peace plan. Despite new charges of war crimes, the US Defense Dept refuses to reopen investigations into the so-called “Tiger Force” in the Vietnam war.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
