CFL ALERT: BUSH MUST DEMAND AN END TO SETTLEMENT ACTIVITY

by CITIZENS FOR FAIR LEGISLATION Tuesday, May. 20, 2003 at 2:38 AM

President Bush must demand without any ambiguity that Israel immediately cease building and expanding existing settlements and that they begin to dismantle all settlements in the Occupied Territories.

For Immediate Release

CFL ALERT: PRESIDENT BUSH MUST DEMAND THAT ISRAEL STOP ITS SETTLEMENT ACTIVITY IMMEDIATELY.

TALKING POINTS:

*Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon will be visiting the White House soon; President Bush must demand without any ambiguity that Israel immediately cease building and expanding existing settlements and that they begin to dismantle all settlements in the Occupied Territories.

*President Bush has stated that Israelis must stop expanding settlements in the West Bank and Gaza as part of a series of confidence-building steps. President Bush has also put together a list of actions that Palestinians must take to democratize themselves and begin to implement the "road map." Palestinians have conceded to every American demand while Israel has blatantly indicated that they will do NOTHING that the Bush administration has asked of them. In a May 13 interview with the Jerusalem Post, Prime Minister Sharon said that the removal of settlements was not "an issue on the horizon."

*When U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell held talks with the Palestinians and Israelis last week, he coaxed the Palestinians into dropping all reservations and to accept the "road map" as it stands. When Powell told Sharon that peace is impossible as long as the settlements remain on Palestinian land, Sharon arrogantly asked the Sec. Of State: "Do you expect our women to have abortions?"

*Tell your Reps and the Bush Administration that you do not want your hard earned tax dollars supporting Ariel Sharon's criminal settlement policies.

*Tell the President that as a tax payer you demand to know what serious action will be taken against Ariel Sharon if he refuses to dismantle his illegal settlements.
