The SHORTWAVE REPORT 8/16/02 ¡Listen Globally!

by Dan Roberts Friday, Aug. 16, 2002 at 10:42 PM
outfarpress@saber.net 707 459-1760 PO Box 1162 Willits CA 95490

A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast upon notification. Germany, Netherlands, China, Spain, and Cuba.

Dear Radio Friend,

The latest Shortwave Report (August 16) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:11) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.

This program will be aired at 7pm PDST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you MIGHT be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org/ (It hasn't worked recently)

There are several other streams that work quite well- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm (PDST) and on Monday at 9amPDST.

Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/

streaming the SWR at Fri 10:30PM/ Sat 10:30AM PM/ Sun 10:30AM PDST

and the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Deutsche Welle, China Radio International, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Havana Cuba.

From Germany- first, a press review from Tuesday, covering the catastrophic weather in central Europe, the deadline for white farmers in Zimbabwe, and the state of affairs in Columbia. With Afghanistan under western control, the race is on for access to its oil and gas reserves.

From Netherlands- Switzerland has refused to sign a treaty stating that they would never extradite US troops to the International Criminal Court; the Columbian government has released a report saying the anti-drug Plan Columbia has been a failure; the US plan to use targeted assasinations against alleged terrorists has stirred global human rights controversy.

From China- first an analysis of the US threats to invade Iraq; then a report from Lebanon that the US military plans to seize Arab airports as part of the attack on Iraq.

From Spain- the Arab League says all Arab countries are opposed to a US attack on Iraq; Iran’s President Khotemi says the US has created a war-like atmosphere throughout the world since 9/11; the execution of a Mexican national in Texas Wednesday was opposed by far more than Mexico’s President Fox; in Venezuela, riots have broken out over the trial of April’s coup plotters.

From Cuba- in Venezuela tapes are released alleging that Supreme Court judges have been bribed in the coup trials; rebels in Columbia, under a new state of emergency, say the further loss of rights will only make the struggle worse; a former British Cabinet member says George Bush’s rhetoric risks further alienating European public opinion.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
