The SHORTWAVE REPORT 8/2/02 ¡Listen Globally!

by Dan Roberts Saturday, Aug. 03, 2002 at 12:57 AM
outfarpress@saber.net 707 459-1760 PO Box 1162 Willits CA 95490

A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (11.6MB) and quick download (3.4MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast upon notification. Netherlands, Germany, China, Russia, Spain and Cuba.

Dear Radio Friend,

The latest Shortwave Report (August 2) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 11.6MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.

This program will be aired at 7pm PDST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you MIGHT be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org/ (It hasn't worked recently)

There are several other streams that work quite well- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm (PDST) and on Monday at 9amPDST.

Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/

streaming the SWR at Fri 10:30PM/ Sat 10:30AM PM/ Sun 10:30AM PDST

and the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Deutsche Welle, Radio China International, the Voice of Russia, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Havana Cuba.

From Netherlands- the UN high comission for Human rights is critical of the treatment of refugees in Australia; a Swedish diplomat says that the US used UN arms inspectors in Iraq as spies; in Britain, a court has ruled that an anti-terrorism act passed after 9/11 is not allowed by EU Human Rights guidelines.

From Germany- a report and press review concerning Germany and Frances decision to not back a US invasion of Iraq, unless authorized by the UN.

From China- the WTO has condemned the US for imposing duties on steel imports; N Korea says S Korea is sending naval vessels into restricted areas as a provocation; Russia is planning on building a total of 6 nuclear power plants in Iran.

From Russia- the EU Foreign Policy Chief has just made a visit to Iran to develop trade deals and discuss human rights; Russia is opposed to the US using military force to solve problems with Iraq.

From Spain- as the EU foreign policy chief visits, Iran denies seeking weapons of mass destruction and says it doesn’t supply Palestinians with weapons; fighting intensified in Somalia between rival war-lords; riots broke out in Venezvuala over possible charges against the plotters of a recent coup attempt; in Columbia, FARC rebels led an entire village into the jungle before the army arrived.

From Cuba- the US may have destroyed evidence of their human rights violations in the massacre of Afghan villagers at a wedding according to the Times of London; then a Viewpoint on how the US solves internal crises by military actions elsewhere.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
