UPDATE: Ramallah

April 24, 2002: A delegation from the European Union, led by Javier Solana, held talks with Yasser Arafat today. The internationals were waiting outside to greet the group on their arrival but were prevented from doing so. They were made to go back inside before the EU delegation was allowed in. Whilst inside, the internationals took the opportunity to speak with them and showed them the damage and the wounded people.

This is the ninth day that they have received no food or water. Moreover, there is mounting concern for the wellbeing of the civilians inside, particularly for the injured. One man has a broken back and requires immediate evacuation to hospital for an operation. Others, too, need medical treatment but so far the Israeli authorities have refused all pleas to allow the injured out.
