A 30 minute weekly review of news and opinions recorded from a shortwave radio. Free to rebroadcast. With times and freqs for English-language broadcasts. 13.5MB Spain, Netherlands, Germany, China, Cuba

The latest Shortwave Report (August 3) is up on the website (http://www.outfarpress.com/ ) (13.5MB/29:35/mono). NOTE: at the request of a station, there is now a 5 second date statement at the start of the Shortwave Report ("this is the SWR for August 3, 2001"), followed by the show. This program is free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you air it, and please mention the website if you only play portions of it.

This week's show has stories from Spanish National Radio, Radio Netherlands, Deutsche Welle, China Radio International, and Radio Havana Cuba.

From Spain- Tony Blair, visiting Brazil, faced people protesting the U.K.'s continuing purchase of illegally logged rainforest timber products; big demonstrations in Guatemala over a new tax and human rights violations.

From Netherlands- Tony Blair says that the European Union shouldn't advise Latin American nations on economics; Greenpeace has to pull down a windmill set up in protest of a new oil derrick; a longer report on the use of herbicides by the Columbian government on coca crops.

From Germany- the Columbian government high-fives itself over killing 105 rebels in 2 days; a Spanish judge orders the arrest of a former Argentine naval officer for his role in tossing suspected leftists from aircraft from 1976-83; Germany legalizes same sex marriages; an in-depth report on the worsening situation in the Israel-Palestine war.

From China- loggers go to prison for illegal logging; the Russian Defense Minister says Russia won't compromise on the 1972 ABM treaty; Iraq files a complaint with the UN over punitive blockade measures.

From Cuba- a report on how the Italian government is avoiding confronting charges of police brutality at the G-8 summit in Genoa, and confiscating all media recordings; the Supreme Court in Chile wants to question Henry Kissinger in the 1973 murder of US journalist Charles Foreman; a Cuban viewpoint on Ariel Sharon's actions in the Israeli/Palestinian war.

All this plus times and frequencies for listening to shortwave at home. I've yet to find a funder for this show, so if you get a sudden idea of who might help finance this show (with no strings attached) please tell me. I enjoy your questions and comments, please write.

The next show will be up on August 10th. Link for this edition-
