Pissed Off People Demand Responsible Reporting
On July 28, about 100 people marched to the Chronicle offices at 5th and Mission to demand that San Francisco's major news outlets stop inciting hate and begin to tell the truth about homelessness in the U.S. and Bay Area. The demonstrators plastered The Chronicle's office building with copies of biased news coverage taken from the Chronicle's own pages and attempted to deliver a list of demands to the editors.
The Chronicle protest coincided with the North American Street Newspaper Association (NASNA) conference, and many of the street newspaper editors were participants. At one point, one person shouted into the bullhorn, "All these people here are armed, with pens!" After an hour of chanting and postering, the Chronicle Sunday editor told police to inform protesters that they would arrange a meeting with Editor Phil Bronstein on Monday.
