PACIFICA:GREAT KPFA REPORT-CURRENT LEGAL/LEGISLATIVE STRUGGLE TO RECLAIM NETWORK

by sam Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001 at 4:23 PM

Excellent Pacifica Station KPFA report on the current legal and now legislative struggle to reclaim the Foundation and local stations from the renegade Board.

One CA legislator's aid sums it all up as follows: "it's clear that the Pacifica Board is not getting the message". This report gives enough background to get "caught-up" on the situation, while also providing important developments in detail.

Legal status update: Federal judge has remanded the lawsuits against Pacifica back to state court. The decision opens the way for possible injunctions against the board's attempt to pass new bylaws, or otherwise further damage the Foundation and it's assets.

Twenty-five California legislators including the leader of the House and of the Senate have now signed on to a letter opposing the new bylaws.

The Sebastopol and Berkeley city councils passed resolutions against the proposed bylaws.

New York City Council proposed resolution supporting WBAI and against the firings, bannings and other disgraceful actions taken there.

ACTION:

BOYCOTT PACIFICA AND STATIONS FUND DRIVES (N.Y.C., WBAI; D.C., KPFW; Berkley, KPFA; L.A., KPFK; Houston, KPFT) - Do *NOT* pledge to Pacifica or any of the Stations, until the Board resigns or is removed. If you did pledge, and you send in money, your contribution may wind up in the coffers of the anti-union, anti-worker, anti-health care law firm of Epstein Becker & Green, or otherwise used to aid the hijackers and those few confused souls at some of the local station who are their minions.

*Do Contribute* to the actions to remove the Board, including the lawsuits, and democratize the organization instead.

Call Pacifica and your local station to voice your concerns.
