Largely unreported info from angelfire.com/zine/ua...Unlawful Assembly
In the sometimes-insane mist of protests occuring at Downtown Los Angeles in responce to the DNC, some protesters are pissed that the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) feels the need to kick innocents in the face with steel-toe boots.
The most serious abuse, which was clearly gross misconduct and was wittnessed by our UA reporter a day before he was arrested, occured on August 14th during the Uwa march. A quiet peaceful man was sitting indian style on the asphalt when a member of "the cheese" decked out in full ass-kicking gear (riot gear) flashed a smile and then proceeded to kick the protester in the face with his construction-grade boot. Due to this reporter being pushed out of the area by police intervention it is unknown what happened to this poor soul.
Addition, and already reported incidents of police violence occured that night at the Rage concert in the protest pit. Scores of protesters were subjected to a menu of unrestrained violence that inculded random rubber/pepper spray bullet fire and horse trampling, many of whom were unconected with the few who threw objects at the police.
Not all police abuse is physical. The man known as "clown guy," who works for the IMC, was told to cease informing about-to-be-jailed members of the Black Bloc on August 15th of their legal right to remain silent and to consult with a lawyer. Later clown guy, as well as our UA reporter, was taken into custody by the police. Both had their right to a lawyer ignored and while the UA reporter was relased, clown guy was sent to jail, where he remains as of press time.
